The English Michael Bisping was forced to leave the fight in front of Mark Munoz due to a detachment of the retina in the right eye. Without hiding his dejection due to the injury, the Brit posted a photo on his Twitter account with an eye patch and revealed that he performed in the fights against Vitor belfort, UFC Sao Paulo, in January, and Alan belcher, at UFC 159. in April, injured.
In an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting, Bisping told how he felt the bruise on his retina. “I was calm, when the vision in my right eye just went away. I got really worried and drove home, but things just kept getting worse. When my girlfriend looked at me, he almost started crying as my eye was full of blood,” he said. “I thought it was the end of my career and that I was blind in my right eye,” he added.
The fighter took the opportunity to apologize to the British fans for not performing at home. “I am devastated. I trained so hard for this fight. And not only that, it's difficult for the people of Manchester and the people of the UK to part with their hard-earned money to buy a ticket, so I apologize to all the fans and everyone who bought a ticket. Once my eye is good and healed, everything will be fine,” he concluded.
To replace Bisping, the Ultimate organization called up the Brazilian Lyoto Machida to face Mark Munoz of UFC Fight 30, an event that takes place on October 26th, in Manchester, England.
