'Doctors were going to stop the fight', says Dana White about Jones' cut

For the second time in a row, Jon Jones almost lost the light heavyweight belt due to a medical interruption. In April, against Chael Sonnen, Jones knocked out his rival before the end of the first round and, only then, he realized that he had a serious fracture in his thumb, which would make it impossible for him to continue in the fight. UFC president Dana White revealed that doctors would stop the fight against Alexander Gustafson last Saturday (21), but they were prevented by the champion himself.

"Jon Jones He has an incredible chin and unconventional striking. I know Gustafsson is hurting right now, but his stock is up right now. Jones had a big cut on his face and the doctors were going to stop the fight before the fifth round, but he and MacCarthy (fight referee) begged for the fight not to be stopped”, said the director after UFC 165.

Last Saturday, in Toronto (Canada), Jon Jones beat Alexander Gustasfsson by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47 and 49-46) and successfully defended the light heavyweight belt in the main fight of UFC 165. After the confrontation, Ultimate management has been talking about a rematch between the Swede and the North American, something rare when the challenger is defeated in a title fight.
