“The reason was that I was standing still (laughs). I had this fight scheduled (under mixed rules) with 'Triller', but they postponed it twice and it was taking too long. It had been over a year since I stopped fighting. I still want to make my debut in professional boxing, but as things were difficult, we had this opportunity to fight in the 'Eagle' (a Khabib Nurmagomedov) which is coming with everything. (I'm already fighting) on May 20th, which is just around the corner and I said: 'This is the way' and we're going to continue in MMA”, said Cigano.
Asked about his relationship with Khabib, the Brazilian praised the Russian. According to him, Nurmagomedov is doing well as the 'business guy' and in investing in the structure of his event, as well as in the care he takes in treating fighters.
“The event is coming with everything. Very well organized, with serious people behind it. The president himself, Khabib, was an exceptional champion and as a 'business guy' is doing very well. My entire experience with the event has been great, not only in recognizing other athletes, but also in organizing the event. I'm very happy to be part of the show and I'm going to fight in Miami, which is my home”, added the Brazilian.
One of the biggest Brazilian names in the history of heavyweight MMA, Júnior returns to action after just over a year of inactivity. His last commitment took place in December 2020, when he ended up being surpassed by Cyryl Gane.
