In a new presentation at flyweight (up to 56,7kg.), Amanda ribas could not bring victory to Brazil. Opponent of Katlyn chookagian No. UFC Las Vegas 54, held this Saturday (14), the Minas Gerais native was the victim of the North American's greater reach and ended up being beaten by points after three busy rounds. Tupiniquim was defeated in a split decision by the judges.

Originally representing the strawweight division (up to 52,1kg), Ribas lost his first commitment in a test in the up-56,7kg division. With the setback, the Brazilian lost the opportunity to qualify for a future title fight in the group led by Valentina Shevchenko.
Current number one in the ranking, behind only the champion, Chookagian asserted her greater reach against the Minas Gerais native. For part of the fight, the North American controlled the actions and connected significant blows on her opponent.
In an interview in the octagon, Katlyn suggested a new opportunity to fight for the flyweight belt. In her first attempt, in 2020, the athlete was defeated by Shevchenko with a knockout in the third round.
The fight
The confrontation began with Katlyn asserting her greater reach and attacking the Brazilian with jabs and rights. In the first minute, Amanda managed a great takedown and took her opponent to the ground. From above, Ribas attacked with elbows, while the American tried to defend herself. After a moment of control by the miner, Chookagian managed to stand. The confrontation became frank again, with the fighters exchanging blows in the center of the octagon. In the final minute, the North American had the advantage in attacks, but the Brazilian continued to move forward. The assault ended with the athletes showing aggression.
In the second round, Amanda attempted a takedown in the opening seconds, but Katlyn defended well. The North American continued to have an advantage in the open exchange, and hurt the Brazilian with jabs and direct strikes. Ribas tried to respond, but fell victim to his opponent's greater reach. With just over a minute having passed, Chookagian attacked the Minas Gerais woman with a clean right in the face, but Amanda absorbed the attack well. With almost two minutes of confrontation, Ribas once again applied another imposing takedown. Ribas attempted transitions, but the American prevented her opponent's actions. After a period of control by the Brazilian, Chookagian managed to stand, but was pressed by the Minas Gerais woman close to the bars. Katlyn tried hard, managed to free herself and the duel was fought again in the center of the octagon. In the final seconds, the American shook Amanda with a series of hard punches, but there was no more time.
The decisive round began with Chookagian throwing a clean right to Amanda's face. The Brazilian tried to go toe-to-toe with her opponent and then looked for a takedown, which was well defended by her opponent. After two minutes, the North American had the advantage in the standing fight, and the Brazilian found it difficult to close the distance. Near the final minute, Ribas again applied a takedown to his opponent, but Katlyn got up easily and quickly moved away. In search of victory, the athletes went for a frank exchange in the final seconds, but the timer ran to zero.
