One of the biggest names in the history of Brazilian MMA, Lyoto Machida he will be a 'free' athlete from the moment he leaves the cage, this Friday (13). Former UFC champion, the 43-year-old veteran is one of the highlights of Bellator 281, when he faces Fabian Edwards, in the co-main fight. A few hours before the confrontation, the fighter analyzed some possibilities after fulfilling the last commitment of his contract.

“I wanted to do the last fight of my contract, and I don't know how things will go from here. I don't know if I will have more opportunities at Bellator or in other organizations”, said Lyoto, in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.
A Bellator representative since leaving the UFC at the end of 2018, Machida briefly analyzes the feeling of officially not wearing the gloves of a specific company. The fighter, however, guarantees that the focus is on a good performance against Fabian Edwards.
“Being an athlete without a contract is good, because you are free to negotiate, even if it is for other sports. On the other hand, you kind of lose. I swear I'm not thinking about it too much. I think about fulfilling the contract well”, he concluded.
Looking forward to his next appointment, Lyoto is going through a delicate moment in the organization. With Bellator gloves, the Brazilian competed in five fights, winning the first two and being defeated in the next three.
This Friday, Machida will have a tough fight ahead of him. If he overcomes Edwards, the Tupiniquim could be included in the top 5 middleweights (up to 83,9kg) and, if his contract is renewed, he will get closer to a title fight.
