The first edition of the Standout Fighting Tournament, an event held on Friday night (20), in São Paulo, marked the redemption of Luiz Banha. The former UFC athlete took no notice of Rodney Wallace and knocked out the American with a knee lift. The result marked the Brazilian's 13th victory and his first since March 2011.
Happy with the triumph, Banha, who had his first fight after leaving the UFC, celebrated his return to the cage, closely followed by Demian Maia e Daniel sarafian, your teammates.
“I missed fighting, I stopped for almost a year. Fighting is what I love to do. I turned things around with a big victory, at a big event, on a big fight night. I'm very happy”, says Banha, adding when revealing the strategy of the final blow: “I noticed that he was lowering his head a lot, giving that opening. I went to meet him and caught him at the right time.”
After losing his mother, Flávio Álvaro wins and moves
The incredible Flávio Álvaro gave yet another proof of his winning and fierce spirit. After the death of his mother last Sunday, the 15th, he left his regrets aside and recorded another victory on his record, this one on points, the only one of the night that ended in a decision.
The result came after three rounds of combat, with Flávio being better in the last two. Using his elbows well in the clinch, he managed to break through Sergio Soares' block and score until the unanimous decision of the side judges was confirmed.
“I dedicate this victory to the person I love most in this life, my mother. As you all know, my mother passed away last weekend. And if there's anything I can advise the guys, it's to take good care of your parents, value what you have at home”, said Flávio, emotional and moving the audience, who gave the fighter a standing ovation.
