Two-time champion, Kayla harrison debuted with victory in the PFL lightweight (up to 70,3kg) tournament. In the main fight of the third event of the 2022 season, held this Friday (6), the judoka found it difficult to progress in the grappling fight against Marina Mokhnatkina, but came away with her 'arms raised' for points.

Undefeated in her career, Harrison extends her streak to 13 wins in 13 fights in professional MMA. It is only the second time that the American has reached the judges' decision since her transition to the sport, which took place in 2018.

On the other hand, Mokhnatkina feels the 'bitter taste' of her third career defeat. Professional since 2016, the Russian has six other victories in her journey in martial arts.

The fight

The two athletes began a lot of study, but with few blows thrown. With about a minute left, Kayla applied a judo takedown and saw Mokhnatkina make the save. The fight was fought in the clinch for most of the round, with the North American superior. In the final stretch, they exchanged blows in striking.

The judo style made the difference in the second round. Harrison threw a combination of jabs and rights and managed a plastic takedown, but saw Marina attempt – unsuccessfully – a leg lock. However, the North American fell on top and threw a katagatame, in addition to trying to grab an arm, but all the progressions were denied by her opponent.

In the third and final round, Kayla once again dominated Mokhnatkina at the fence, but found it difficult to apply effective takedowns from close range. Still, the North American continued with her main actions and chose to 'hold' the pace in the final minutes.
