Riding on a streak of ten consecutive victories, Islam seemed close to a contest by defeating Bobby Green in the first round, but he was further removed from the fight for 'gold' by refusing to fight against Rafael dos Anjos, who ended up facing – and winning – Renato Moicano No. UFC 272, in March.

Ward of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev has shown himself to be one of the best fighters in the division due to his power to dominate and submit his opponents in Ultimate. Until then, in a career that began in 2010, the athlete has a record of 22 victories – against names like Dan Hooker, Thiago Moses, Gleison Tibau and Arman Tsarukyan – and only one defeat in his career in martial arts. At 30 years old, he occupies third place in the division led by Charles of the Bronx.
