A tragic motorcycle accident in the city of Columbus, Ohio (USA), took the life of MMA fighter Cornelius Godfrey, just 25 years old. Cornelius, an athlete at the XFC event, was considered one of the main promises in the organization's bantamweight category, having suffered only one defeat in his career.
According to information from the website “MMA Junkie”, Godfrey was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision with a guard rail (metallic protection), but he could not resist his injuries and ended up passing away. According to the police, it is not yet possible to determine whether the fighter was speeding or had consumed alcoholic beverages. Cornelius was seen in a bar, about 2 km from the accident site.
In his professional career, Cornelius Godfrey had a record of seven wins and just one defeat – to Shah Bobonis, in September last year. As an amateur, the North American won twelve fights and lost two others. Cornelious also won a Golden Gloves title, an amateur boxing event. The fighter leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
