The flirtation of Fabricio Werdum with his retirement from MMA, it was short-lived. Weeks after declaring that it would take an “out of this world” proposal to return to fight, the former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) plans to return to the PFL decagon in the middle of the year.

“After considering retirement from MMA at the beginning of the year, Fabricio Werdum decided he still wants to compete for the PFL in 2022. He asked for a fight on June 24th. Initially reported by Sherdog and confirmed by his manager Ali Abdelaziz,” Okamoto wrote.

At 44 years of age, Fabricio Werdum has not been in action since the controversial duel against Renan Problem, in his PFL debut, in May 2021. On that occasion, “Vai Cavalo” was knocked out after his compatriot gave “three taps” in an attempt to submit the gaucho and the referee let the fight continue. The result of the fight was later changed to “No Contest”. Werdum even stated that the controversy was one of the reasons for considering retirement.
