Wilson Reis debuts at UFC 165 against veteran Ivan Menjivar

Brazilian bantamweight comes from four consecutive victories and the WFE Platinum belt

The bantamweight Wilson reis would debut in the UFC this Wednesday, at the event to be held in Belo Horizonte, against Hugo Wolverine, in place of Johnny Bedford, who was injured. However, Wolverine was also injured and ended up taking Reis out of UFC No Combate 3. This Tuesday, the organization rescheduled the former Bellator's debut.

Wilson reis will face the Salvadoran Ivan Menjivar on the preliminary card of UFC 165. Menjivar would face Japanese Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, but he will not be able to step into the octagon on the 21st.

With 16 wins in 20 professional fights, Reis competed in three Bellator tournaments as a featherweight and one as a bantamweight. In the top category, he was eliminated by Patricio pitbull twice, in addition to being surpassed by Eduardo Dantas in the current division. Then, the São Paulo native won the WFE Platinum belt, in Salvador, and went on a streak of four victories, three of which were by submission.

Menjivar needs to recover from the defeat in his last commitment, when he was submitted for the first time in his career by his long-time rival Urijah faber, at UFC 157. Canadian by adoption, Menjivar won four of his last six fights, having won two submission bonuses of the night against John Albert and Azamath Gashimov.

PUBLICITY:

UFC 165 will be headlined by two title fights. The main event will involve the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones against the challenger Alexander Gustafson. The other title fight on the card that will be held in Toronto will take place in the category of Wilson and Menjivar: the interim champion Renan Barao makes the second defense against the North American Eddie Wineland.
