With a dominant champion and several challengers ready to fight for the belt, the welterweight division (up to 77 kg) is going through a period of uncertainty. While everything indicates that Leon edwards should really be the next to challenge Kamaru Usman, Belal Muhammad | believes he is more deserving of the position.

After dominating and winning Vincent Luque in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 51, Belal Muhammad | declared, in a press conference, that he believes he should be the next challenger for the category belt. The American of Palestinian descent claimed that he faced more competitive opponents than Leon edwards e Colby covington.
“Who in the division has a better streak than me? I literally faced (Demian) Maia, Wonderboy (Thompson), (Vicente) Luque. Who did Colby face? Colby faced guys with two straight losses. Who did Leon face? Leon faces lightweights. None of these guys face division challengers. Nobody has the courage to do that. I'm the guy saying 'yes' to the toughest guys in the division. Leon may have more victories than me, but he doesn't have the same quality as my victories. I don't think he deserves to fight for the title. I think I deserve it, but he has the privilege of Dana White. I don't expect to have anything handed to me. I have to fight for everything I have and I’m willing to keep doing that,” said the fighter.
The victory over Vincent Luque was the third consecutive Belal Muhammad |, who has not lost in eight fights since January 2019. The North American entered the octagon to face the Brazilian as sixth in the welterweight rankings.
