“To everyone who has expressed their support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are grateful for all the love received. Your kind gestures and words gave me strength in dark times. The story is complex and is slowly unfolding. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Although it is very difficult to relive the pain that happened to you, by speaking the truth, justice will be served and your true healing can begin. I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for loving me,” Velasquez wrote.

Understand the case

At 39 years old, Velasquez was arrested on February 28, 2022, for attempted murder. The heavyweight legend shot a man who had allegedly molested a member of his family, who was a minor. Cain fired at the vehicle and hit the accused's stepfather in the arm.

The American was later accused of attempted murder and a series of other charges, which could range from 20 years to life in prison. He was even denied a bail hearing after the judge in the case, Shelyna Brown, judged the fighter's actions as 'reckless' and that, if he were released, he could put other lives at risk.
