Before the confrontation against Khamzat Shimaev, Gilbert Durinho was discredited by a large part of the press and MMA fans. However, after showing its value in the UFC 273, there were people apologizing to the Brazilian fighter. Among those 'regretful' is the former Ultimate athlete Brendan Schaub.

“I would say, myself included, that many of these MMA experts underestimated Durinho. And I'll be the first to admit that I owe him a full apology. I thought he would be absolutely annihilated, because I'm completely into the Chimaev hype, but the hype train is going to make a few stops along the way. You must have forgotten, including me, that Durinho is a wild guy. He exchanged blows with the smaller fighter and was caught. That blow that Durinho landed on him, I think it takes down 99,9% of the UFC. Chimaev showed he has a granite chin, which is what we want. I'm curious what the game plan was, because if this fight went to the fourth and fifth rounds... Again, that's from the Chimaev fan club president, but if this went to the fourth and fifth rounds, it would be a little worried,” said Schaub.
The duel between Durinho and Chimaev was chosen as the 'Fight of the Night' of the UFC 273. The two athletes fought a real 'war' for 15 minutes and the Swedish prospect emerged victorious in the judges' decision. With the triumph, Khamzat took the 'elevator' in the welterweight classification (under 77,1kg) and is now third in the rankings.
