A self-confessed boxing fan, the former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva does not seem to have the same sympathy for one of the main names in the sport today: Floyd Mayweather Jr. After being criticized, and having his history mocked, by the boxer, Anderson Silva he refuted the statements, almost two months later, in an interview with the North American radio “Sirius XM”.
"Who is this guy? Daddy Smurf? Mayweather is a good boxer in my opinion. I don't need to say much, because the guy doesn't respect me. I respect other guys in the world. Mayweather is part of the history of sport in the world, I am part of the sport, and Mayweather needs to respect that. But this guy doesn't respect anything. Sorry, but I don’t respect Mayweather,” said Anderson, faced with the interviewer’s insistence on the subject.
On a promotional tour for his next fight, against Canelo Alvarez placeholder image, Mayweather Jr. stated that he could never be compared to Anderson Silva. After saying that he didn't know the Brazilian, the boxer, undefeated in 44 fights as a professional, declared that he had been at the top for 17 years and that the Brazilian would need at least another half decade to get closer to his achievements.
If Floyd Mayweather Jr. has his next engagement scheduled for September, Anderson Silva returns and has his next fight only in December. The Brazilian will perform, in the main fight of UFC 168, one of the most anticipated rematches in the history of Ultimate, against the North American Chris Weidman – who beat Spider in July and won the middleweight belt.
