Even with the defeat to Chris Weidman in July, Anderson Silva remains the UFC record holder in terms of number of consecutive title defenses – ten in total. However, if it depends on the lightweight champion Ben henderson, this brand will change hands in a few years.

“I will break the record in 2016. I would be able to break it in 2015, but I will get married and I will take time for my honeymoon. This will set me back by three or four months. I know when I'm going to break the record. It will be early 2016. I am aware of that. I know that. Now my goal is to go out there and do it”, said the American to the “MMA Fighting” website.

Even with everything planned, Benson Henderson will have a lot of work ahead of him. Currently, “Smooth”, as he is known, has three consecutive title defenses – against Frankie Edgar, Nate diaz and Gilbert Melendez. To surpass Spider's mark, the North American would need another eight victories.

The first step towards the objective set by Bendo is the duel in front of Anthony Pettis, rerun of the last fight for the lightweight belt of the extinct WEC – won by “Showtime”. The fight takes place next Saturday (31) and is the main event of UFC 164, which takes place in Milwaukee (USA).
