Colby covington seems, in fact, to be excited about the possibilities of facing Israel adesanya for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.). After showing interest in moving up a category for the challenge, 'Caos' praised the former fighter and current commentator, Chael Sonnen, for suggesting fighting the UFC.

“Uncle Chael brings up a very good point. Everyone was talking about Usman fighting Adesanya, this and that, Usman is a bad fight for Adesanya. But man, I'm a bad fight for Usman. (…) Why can’t I go up and fight Adesanya? I'm not going to have to cut a lot of pounds, I'm just going to wake up and fight at my natural weight,” Covington said in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.
Colby has already competed for the welterweight title (up to 77kg) on two occasions and, on both occasions, he ended up defeated by Usman. However, the North American is coming off a victory against his arch-rival Jorge masvidal and believes he could pose a real danger to Adesanya.
“This guy can't stop what I do. I truly believe this, wholeheartedly. I'm a wrestler and I mix martial arts. Nobody does it like me. I mixed all (the modalities) into one. I'm a world-class striker, a fighter through and through. I am unbeatable. And people will see in the next two years how impossible it is to stop this style,” he concluded.
Owner of a strong personality and adept at 'trash talk', Colby covington has been exploring its options for the future. 'Chaos' has even challenged Dustin poirier and seems willing to move up a division to challenge Israel adesanya – who, first, must try to defend the belt against Jared Cannonier, still in the first semester.
