After confirming his move to flyweight (up to 56,7kg.) and confirming his debut against Lauren Murphy for May, Miesha Tate has a new date for its debut in the new category. Former UFC bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg), the veteran will now be one of the stars of the UFC 276, which takes place on July 2nd. In case of victory, the North American could get closer to a title fight, which currently belongs to the Valentina Shevchenko.

“The same fight, but with a new date. The biggest card for the best performance. See you in July,” Murphy wrote on his Instagram account.
UFC bantamweight champion in 2016, Tate retired from MMA in the same year, after two consecutive defeats. One of those responsible for promoting women in mixed martial arts, the fighter decided to resume her career in 2021.
After a hiatus of almost five years, Miesha returned to the octagon in a confrontation against Marion Reneau. On that occasion, the former champion shone and won with a knockout in the third round.
Back in the bantamweight elite, Tate didn't have the same performance when he faced Ketlen Scallop. Faced with the Brazilian, the North American ended up succumbing and, at the end of 2021, lost her first since returning to the sport.
Months later, 'Cupcake' made public her desire to test herself in the under-56,7kg category. One of the reasons for the decision was the achievement of Julianna Pena – your personal friend – against Amanda nunes. With the Venezuelan on the throne and no intention of facing her colleague, the veteran was left with a change of scenery.
In July, Tate will debut in the group straight away against an elite opponent. Today, Lauren Murphy occupies third place in the division. In case of victory, Miesha can get her passport stamped to face the champion, Valentina Shevchenko, which has reigned supreme in the category since 2018.
