The duel to unify the WBA (World Boxing Association) featherweight belt, held last Saturday (12), ended with one of the most impressive scenes of the year in the noble art. Lineal champion, Leigh Wood made the then interim champion Michael Conlan fall out of the ring with a devastating knockout in the last round of the fight.

Superior throughout the match, Leigh Wood cornered Michael Conlan against the ropes in the final round. When trying to dodge, the interim champion ended up receiving a clean strike from the Brit. In slow motion, the Irishman fell backwards unconscious, went through the ropes and ended up outside the ring.
Michael Conlan was transported to the hospital after the knockout, underwent tests, but is doing well.
In addition to losing the interim champion title and the opportunity to unify the belts, Michael Conlan also lost his unbeaten record in his career. The Irishman had 16 wins in 16 appearances as of last Saturday.
On the other side, Leigh Wood defended the WBA featherweight belt for the first time. The Brit now has 26 wins and two losses in his professional career.
