Considered one of the best light heavyweights in the world, the Armenian Gegard Mousasi decided to return to middleweight and asked to face Vitor belfort. After the Brazilian's refusal, the European changed his offer, making himself available to Belfort in other categories.
“I would easily take this fight with Vitor,” Mousasi told MMAjunkie.com. “If he continues to make demands about who will fight, I will face Vitor at combined weight or as light heavyweight. At the end of the day, I want to fight the best guys to win the title. I don’t deny fights.”
Mousasi's main intention is still to face Belfort as a middleweight to shorten the path to a title fight. He took the opportunity to criticize the Brazilian veteran's stance.
“Vitor is a fighter and he is not young anymore. He gets paid to fight. He should go there and do his job with or without the belt (on the line). This is his job and he shouldn't be making so many demands because he's just wasting time and opportunity. I only want to fight guys who also want to fight me and who want to test themselves in this way. If Vitor does his job, I would be very happy to face him at 84 kilos, 88 or 93 kilos. I know that both the fans and the UFC really want to see this fight. If Vitor doesn’t want to fight, then give me the position of number one middleweight contender.”
Mousasi is in the final stages of recovery from a knee injury suffered in his UFC debut, in the victory over the Swede Ilir Latifi, in April. Vitor last fought in May, when he knocked out Luke Rockhold at UFC No Combate 2.
