Featured on the main card of UFC 272, held this Saturday (5), in Las Vegas (USA), Edson Barboza was unable to repeat the good performances of the past. Opponent of Bryce mitchell In a fight contested at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), the Brazilian was the victim of the North American's perfect strategy, who managed to nullify the veteran for three rounds. After 15 minutes of confrontation, the Tupiniquim rival was declared the winner in the unanimous decision of the judges.

With the result, Barboza ends up seeing his situation at featherweight become more complicated. In the category since May 2020, the fighter from Nova Friburgo (RJ) now reaches his third stumble in five commitments in the group.
Considered a promise for the organization for the future, Mitchell won his most important career victory to date. In addition to beating a benchmark in the UFC, the North American extended his unbeaten record in his career. Now, the fighter has 15 victories in his career in MMA and doesn't know what it's like to lose in the sport.
In an interview after the official announcement of the result, Bryce asked for one of the performance bonuses in the UFC. The fighter stated that the dreamed US$50 (around R$253) will be used to help needy children in the US state of Arkansas.
The fight
The confrontation began with Barboza launching two low kicks at the opponent's base. The North American absorbed the attacks well and tried to shorten the distance from the Brazilian. The Tupiniquim continued to focus on low kicks, but Bryce showed no signs of discomfort. After just over a minute, Mitchell connected with a straight left to the Tupiniquim's face, who fell. Afterwards, the North American managed the takedown and started attacking his rival with blows from top to bottom. In a disadvantageous position, Barboza received powerful attacks from his opponent. The Brazilian tried to stop the fight, but Bryce remained aggressive. In the final minute, Edson managed to 'explode' and stayed on his feet. The confrontation then returned to being fought in the center of the octagon. Near the end of the stage, the Brazilian landed a clean right on the North American's face, who started to walk backwards, but there was no more time.
In the second round, the Brazilian attacked again first, with a new low kick. Next, Mitchell took advantage of an oversight by the Tupiniquim, dodging a punch and taking Barboza to the ground. As in the first stage, the North American again attacked the athlete from Nova Friburgo in the ground and pound. Halfway through the round, Barboza's face was injured, a result of his rival's attacks. After just over three minutes, Edson managed to get to his feet, but was immediately taken down by the North American. Bryce continued to control the actions and did not allow the Tupiniquim to recover. Towards the final minute, Mitchell increased the pressure and the situation became dramatic for the veteran. The stage ended with Bryce pressing on top.
In the last round, Edson threw a cross in the opening seconds. The Brazilian knocked his rival off balance with a straight shot, but he didn't want to go to the ground with the North American. Just over a minute into the fight, Mitchell dodged an attack from the Tupiniquim and took down the veteran again. On top, Bryce continued to score and attacked his rival in the ground and pound. Near the final minute, Barboza tried to get up, but Mitchell didn't allow the Tupiniquim to recover. The North American got the mount and attacked the Brazilian with punches. In the final seconds, Bryce's elbows started coming in clean and Barboza just protected himself. The round ended with the North American on top.
