Ryan Gracie is arrested for stealing a car and motorcycle

Toyota Corolla that, according to police, fighter tried to steal

Motorcycle courier Adriano da Silva Souza, 29, said he was approached by jiu-jitsu and anything-goes fighter Ryan Gracie in the early afternoon of this Friday (14) when he was stopped at a traffic light on Avenida Juscelino Kubtchek, in Zona South of São Paulo. “He came up from behind with a knife and said: 'get off the bike or I'll kill you'. I was really scared.”

Gracie was arrested around 13:30 pm carrying a kitchen knife. He allegedly stole a Toyota Corolla and, while escaping, hit the right side of the bumper against a concrete bench on Avenida Henrique Chama. He also tried to steal a white Fiorino and a motorcycle, when he was stopped at the intersection of Henrique Chama and Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek by a team of police officers who were driving by the place.

Motorcycle courier Souza reported that he got off the motorcycle and handed the vehicle over to the suspect, but while the fighter tried to start the vehicle, other motorcycle couriers approached and helped Souza recover his motorcycle.

The motorcycle courier said he hit the fighter in the head with his helmet, who fell to the ground. Other motorcycle couriers approached, immobilized the fighter and managed to grab the knife he had with him. A short time later, the police arrived and arrested the suspect.

At around 15:50 pm, the delegate on duty at the 15th DP Ailton Braga said that the fighter was detained in the act for attempted robbery, as he “did not obtain full possession of the property”. He still hadn't heard the motorcycle courier.

The fighter's lawyer, Rodrigo Souto de Assis Silva, arrived at the police station at around 15:30 pm. Until 16pm, he had not yet had access to his client and said he would only comment on the case after talking to Gracie.
