Whittaker reaffirms his desire for a trilogy with Adesanya and says he can still become the best fighter in history

The Australian believes he has not reached a 'ceiling' in his career and wants a trilogy to prove he can beat the Nigerian for the middleweight belt

Robert whittaker just faced Israel adesanya, but it is 'stuck' with the rematch held in UFC 271, an event that took place on February 13th. In an interview with 'Submission Radio', the Australian says he still feels like he won the second meeting and reaffirmed his desire for a trilogy to prove himself as 'number one' in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg.).

“There's that part of disappointment that I didn't come out as a winner, as I think I should have been. But I still have that feeling of satisfaction for having upset him. I want more of this (…), I lost the decision, but I'm the best middleweight in the world. I know this, because I was frustrated in the first fight, but I managed to regain my confidence”, said Whittaker.

Confident in his ability, Whittaker believes he still has a long way to go in mixed martial arts. He even thinks he can become the best fighter in the history of the sport.

“Another fight is inevitable. We will definitely still face each other. I'm the best middleweight in the world, trust me. I'm enjoying the process and I don't have a ceiling. With each fight you see a new developed and evolved version of myself. And honestly, there is no ceiling. I will be the best of all time, and it is only a matter of time”, he concluded.

Two years later, the New Zealander moved to the division where he became champion in 2017. The 31-year-old fighter has a record of 23 triumphs and six setbacks in professional MMA.
