Olympic judo champion Satoshi Ishi announced this Wednesday that his goal is to make a career in MMA, in the United States and fighting in the UFC.
The heavyweight was considered to make his MMA debut on December 31st, at K-1 Dynamite, in Saitama, Japan, but decided to postpone his debut and only fight in the United States in 2009.
“I finally made my decision. The UFC is where I want to fight. As I am a 'white belt' in MMA, I understand the possibility of starting from WEC. If I were an unknown judoka, I would definitely want to build my MMA experience in Japan first. However, I decided to put my Judo gold medal to use. I believe that my name will attract value to the UFC”, said the athlete.
According to a report on the MMA Mania website, Ishi would prepare at ATT, a team led by Brazilian Ricardo Libório from March of next year.
