In a press conference after the stumble against the champion, the Australian showed sportsmanship and celebrated his evident evolution as an athlete. The combatant, however, revealed that, at the end of the confrontation, decided by points, he thought he had surpassed his rival.

“This fight was better than the first, wasn’t it? I thought I had done enough (to win). I think I lost the first round, but I managed to recover. I returned every punch. These things are just like that”, said the athlete.

Even with his dream of regaining the middleweight throne frustrated, Whittaker avoids excuses. The athlete, however, highlighted his evolution and sees the future with good eyes.

“I’m going to evolve a little more, improve. I will come back a better man. (…) I've been working to evolve and you could see that in the fight I just had. I’m excited for the future,” she signed off.

This weekend, Whittaker climbed into the octagon to repeat a confrontation held in UFC 243, when he ended up being dethroned by Israel in a fight valid for the unification of the title. On that occasion, the Australian ended up being knocked out in the second round.
