The remarkable performance of Jared Cannonier in the confrontation against Derek Brunson, held this Saturday (12), in Houston (USA), by UFC 271, gave the athlete the chance he dreamed of competing for the middleweight belt (under 83,9kg). After a performance marked by overcoming, the athlete summoned Dana White, and, apparently, he was answered. In a press conference after the show, the 'big boss' confirmed the athlete as a challenger for the title.

“I was excited to see this fight, how it would unfold. It was an incredible confrontation. I'm not going to say 'no' to Cannonier”, said the agent.
There was a lot of expectation for the confrontation between Jared and Brunson, which took place moments before the title fight between Israel adesanya e Robert whittaker. With the Nigerian's eventual victory, which ended up happening, Cannonier and Derek could be 'promoted' to challengers.
Current number three in the rankings, Jared didn't have an easy time against the veteran. The fighter came close to being submitted in the first round, but ended up saved by the bell. In the second stage, the fighter changed his stance and took advantage of his opponent's physical exhaustion. What happened next was an overwhelming knockout.
At the same press conference, White avoided suggesting when the clash between Adesanya and Jared will take place. The expectation is that the fight will take place this season, as the champion has shown interest in remaining active in the company.
