After Ngannou's injury, Dana White talks about holding interim heavyweight belt

Amid speculation about the future of the heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg), Dana White spoke about the organization's 'next step'. At a press conference for UFC 271, the agent made it clear that the champion, Francis Ngannou, will undergo knee surgery. Still, he appears uncertain about holding the interim belt.

“We had dinner with Francis before he went back to Cameroon, and he comes back in a few weeks, and we will meet again when he comes home (after surgery). But I still don't know (about the future of the heavyweight division). Let’s see how he plays this all out,” White said.

The heavyweight division has Francis Ngannou as owner of the linear belt, having defended his title against Cyryl Gane No. UFC 270, in the unanimous decision of the judges. The Cameroonian, however, fought injured and is expected to recover for around nine months.

Meanwhile, in the UFC 271 next Saturday (12), Derrick Lewis e Tai tuivasa face off in the second most important fight of the night, looking to get closer to the organization's title. Furthermore, Jon Jones e Stipe Miocic have also expressed interest in facing each other.
