This Saturday (12), Israel adesanya e Robert whittaker face each other in the main fight of the UFC 271, in a rematch valid for the middleweight belt (up to 70,3 kg). Winner of the first confrontation, held in October 2019, Adesanya has in his favor the historical record of rematches in title fights in Ultimate.

O SUPER FIGHTS made a list of all the times fighters faced each other twice in duels valid for the belt. In 60,5% of cases, whoever won the first fight also won the rematch.
In total, there have been 38 title rematches in UFC history. On 23 occasions, whoever won the first fight also emerged victorious in the rematch; 11 times, the loser of the first duel won the rematch; three times one of the fights ended in a draw; and once, in the confrontation between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier, one of the fights ended “No Result”.
It is important to emphasize that the survey only takes into account situations in which the two meetings were valid for UFC belts. In cases of trilogies, third clashes are not taken into account.
If the total number favors Adesanya, the middleweight division should make the Nigerian even more optimistic. Within the category, 100% of belt rematches ended with the same winners as the first fights: Anderson Silva beat Rich Franklin and Chael Sonnen twice and was surpassed by Chris Weidman also on two occasions.
