After igniting a rivalry with Nate diaz and talk about confrontation within the UFC, Dustin poirier seems to have given up on the idea, at least momentarily. Without fighting since the defeat to Charles of the Bronx, in a confrontation valid for the linear lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.), the athlete stopped his interest in facing the 'bad boy' and put his career in check. Indecision regarding the future was exposed in response to internet users on Twitter.

“I don’t know what’s next,” Dustin responded, when asked about the next step.

It didn't take long for an internet user to ask about a possible retirement. Poirier did not rule it out.

“We’ll see…”, he simply replied.

The tone of indecision didn't stop there. Former interim lightweight champion, 'Diamante' also briefly commented on his desire to face Diaz.

“Why is Diaz running (from possible combat)”, asked a follower. Dustin then joked about the situation: “he (Nate) is a triathlete”, he wrote, making reference to one of the sports practiced by the 'bad boy'.

There were also those who suggested a fourth confrontation with Conor McGregor, defeated twice by Poirier in 2021, within Ultimate.

“I don’t think it (will happen, in MMA)”, he concluded.

A standout in the lightweight division for years, Poirier experienced good and bad times last season. After getting past McGregor in two engagements, the fighter's plans to take over the group's absolute throne were frustrated for the second time, when he ended up overtaken by Do Bronx.

The defeat to the Brazilian momentarily removed the veteran from his dream of getting closer to the title. So far, there is no definition regarding the athlete's future in the UFC.
