Approximately one week after facing Whindersson Nunes in one of the most popular fights of recent times and gaining millions of followers, Acelino Popó Freitas found himself involved in a controversy. The former world boxing champion announced that he had to return a sum of money that was paid to him for publicizing an alleged financial scam on social media.

With more than 3 million followers on Instagram, Popó publicized “Robô do Pix”, a financial scam that promises to give easy money to interested parties and has been “booming” on the social network in recent months.

PUBLICITY:

“Do you want extra income without having to sell anything on the internet? Receive at least three Pix per week worth up to R$500? The Pix robot is paying several people R$3 a month. Just configure the robot and that’s it”, announced Popó.

After being heavily criticized by his followers, Popó recognized that the product he promoted would be a fraud. During a recent appearance on the Flow Podcast, the former world champion guaranteed that he returned the R$100 he had received for the promotion.

PUBLICITY:

“R$100 came into my account from doing an arroba (advertising). But I returned it. We're still new to this, right? I went to see that it was something from the 'little robot'. I said: 'Wow, let's give it back'. I'm not going to steal. A few days ago they said 'they locked up my money', 'they didn't pay all that', 'I tried to withdraw it and it didn't work'. The culprit is whoever transmitted the information, that is, me”, revealed the former world champion.
