Last Sunday (30), Acelino Popó Freitas returned to the ring to face the YouTuber Whindersson Nunes in the main fight of Fight Music Show. As predicted by the event regulations, the duel ended in a draw after eight rounds without a knockout, despite the clear dominance of the former world champion. According to Popó, however, the outcome was almost different.
During his appearance on the “Flow Sport Club” podcast, last Thursday (03), Popó admitted what everyone already imagined. The former champion stated that he had to “hold his hand” at times to avoid being knocked out. Whindersson Nunes.
“My hand is still hurt, injured, I even made a post showing it. I've never had my hand like that before. I don't know if it was the atmosphere of the fight. Whindersson is very tough, I felt the bone of my hand touch his face. Not because of my malice. If it had been evil, I would have knocked him out. I held his hand a few times”, admitted Popó.
According to Popó, the reason for holding the hand was simple: to give the audience the show they wanted to see. On the one hand, the Bahian wanted to show everyone that Whindersson Nunes He is truly a boxer, but on the other hand, he wanted to prove that he is still in top physical shape, contrary to what many people thought.
“A fighter's instinct is to take down, but my instinct was for the show. I had an obligation to get a fighter out of the guy. Nobody knew the guy was a fighter. And even so, people were betting that he would take me down, because I was 46 years old, because they thought I drink and smoke, even though I don't do any of that,” said Popó.
Despite admitting that he had to hold his hand to avoid being knocked out, Popó praised Whindersson. According to the former champion, the YouTuber has more resistance than many professional fighters in the noble art.
"Was amazing. Something from another world. The guy is not a boxer, he was beaten, he resisted. Many fighters I know, when they take a blow that staggers them, they even throw themselves. I have a nephew who is a boxing expert, but he can't take a hit, he throws himself. Whindersson is above any type of man who can take the hit and hold the wave. He rarely backed down.”
