Absolute heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg.) in Ultimate, Francis Ngannou appears to be willing to use his past negative experience in the division to his advantage. Needing knee surgery and an undefined future in the company, the French-Cameroonian still doesn't see the 'flag of peace'. In a provocative tone, the 'giant' stated that, due to the procedure, he may not be seen in activity for a year, potentially 'locking down' the category.

“The past has already shown that, at heavyweight, they can wait a year to defend their belt. We have had one title defense per year for some time now. I don’t think that will be a problem”, said the champion, in an interview with podcast 'IT'S TIME!!!', by Bruce Buffer.

Owner of the linear title since March 2021, Ngannou was a major critic of Ultimate before reaching the absolute top of the group. Even at a great stage, before assuming the throne, the French-Cameroonian had to wait for the decision on the trilogy between Stipe Miocic e Daniel Cormier.

On a few occasions, Francis went public to criticize the waiting time for a title fight, as he was going through a great phase in the company, collecting victims in the Octagon.

Now, the situation has reversed. In crisis with the UFC, demanding respect, freedom and better payments, Ngannou is without a contract and could sign a contract with another company if he does not present himself by December 31st. So far, there is no confirmation about the athlete's maintenance or possible dismissal.
