Finally the undefeated North American Daniel Cormier decided his future. In doubt about remaining as a heavyweight or dropping down in category, the fighter said he will ask for a title shot (chance to fight for the belt) in the light heavyweight category if he wins his next fight.

The AKA athlete arrived at the UFC boasting the title of the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, a competition that began with names like Fedor Emelianenko, Fabricio Werdum, alistair overeem, Antonio Pezão and Josh Barnett in contention. With high morale to try for the belt in the main organization in the world after the extinction of Strikeforce, he saw his growth being hindered by the regaining of the title by Cain Velazquez, your training partner and personal friend.

This Tuesday, Cormier told reporter Ariel Helwani, on the UFC Tonight program, that he intends to ask for a fight for the light heavyweight belt if he wins Roy Nelson at UFC 166. The request could represent another “jump to the queue” in the UFC, given that Cormier has never fought as a light heavyweight. He debuted in the current organization in April, when he dominated Frank mir for three rounds and won by unanimous decision.

UFC 166, which will host the clash between Cormier and Nelson, is scheduled for October 19, in Houston. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between the champion Cain Velazquez and the challenger Junior Gypsy.

I think that Cormier, even with his smaller reach and height, Jon Jones will have a trial by fire ahead of him, this Cormier has good technique, a good Westling and a lot of resistance, if they put up a fight the fight will catch on, hehe.

Has anyone seen Cormier's fight against Pezao? The DC has an overhand right (from above) that is a warhead, it is practically impossible to take down, it is much, much stronger than it looks. I think that against him, JJ can only keep kicking and jabbing from afar and running away in circles. If you try to take it down, you'll be left at the bottom. And if you try to shorten it, you'll take one and go to sleep.
