One of the most complex athlete-related crimes in Brazil may be close to a solution. Agents from the Penitentiary System Intelligence Superintendence (Sispen) arrested, this Monday (22), another suspect in the kidnapping of Priscila Belfort, sister of the middleweight Vitor belfort.

Trafficker Leonardo Luiz Batista, known as “Léo Bicudo”, was arrested in Vila Isabel, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The criminal had escaped from the Instituto Penal Vicente Piragibe on February 3rd through a tunnel built in the sewage pipe.

Priscila Belfort has been missing since 2004. The fighter's family never wanted to report her as dead, believing that the case could one day be clarified. His sister's kidnapping coincided with the worst phase of Vitor's career. The fighter lost three fights in a row, including the one that cost him the UFC light heavyweight belt. Belfort was defeated by Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz e alistair overeem, this one in PRIDE. Subsequently, he won two of four fights against less capable opponents, being defeated by Dan Henderson (when he was still caught in anti-doping) and again by Overeem.

Léo Bicudo is the second suspect in the Priscila Belfort case arrested by the Rio police. In March, the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested Leandro Ferreira Fernandes, alias “Periquito”, who had been on the run since 2010.
