On the eve of facing Anthony Perosh at UFC Rio 4, on August 3, Vinny Magalhães was aware of the delicate situation he is experiencing in Ultimate. In an interview with the “MMA Mania” website, Vinny – who is coming off an undisputed defeat to Phil Davis – commented on his current situation, but highlighted the importance of being among the best fighters, in the main MMA organization on the planet.

“The most important thing to prove to myself is that I belong to the elite. That I can fight the best in the world, which means fighting in the UFC. I just want to fight in the UFC. Point. I don't care if against top 10 or top 5 rivals. If you're in the UFC, you're fighting the best, and I want to prove that I belong there. If I lose this fight, I deserve to be cut. I'll be very honest: the way I presented myself in my last fight, I could be cut now. They didn't have to give me that chance against Anthony Perosh. But the UFC gave me this opportunity, and I want to prove that I can perform much better than I did last time. I want to prove to myself that I can be in the UFC and that this is where I belong,” said the athlete.
