The main fight of UFC 270 this Saturday (22) had different and curious moments in the unification of the heavyweight belt (up to 120,2kg.). After being at a disadvantage in the opening two rounds, Francis Ngannou surprised and adopted the wrestling game to 'turn' the fight against Cyryl Gane in the unanimous decision of the judges. With the triumph, the Cameroonian defended his title for the first time.

In an intelligent performance, Francis also showed great improvement in his grappling game. The champion now has his sixth consecutive victory and a record of 17 triumphs and three setbacks.

Gane, in turn, feels the 'bitter taste' of his first defeat in mixed martial arts. The Frenchman was unable to unify his belt and, therefore, will need to rebuild his path with another opportunity. He has a record of 10 positive results and one negative result.

The fight

The confrontation began with cordiality and greetings between the former training partners. Immediately, Gane surprised and attempted a takedown near the fence, but ended up frustrated by Ngannou's takedown defense. Then, the challenger worked on kicks to the waistline and dodged the first 'stone' from the champion – who also tried, unsuccessfully, to work with strikes on the cage. As soon as the two fighters broke free, Ciryl threw a spinning kick that stopped in the champion's guard.

The second stage had Ciryl, again, delivering the first blow with a front kick. Francis, in turn, didn't seem to feel it and continued marching forward. The fight, however, was static for a few moments and was surrounded by boos from the audience present in the arena. The interim champion decided to bet on a new 'weapon' for round kicks. However, the lineman made the save and tried to respond with combinations of jabs and straight shots.

In the third round, the surprise came from Francis Ngannou with three falls. Firstly, the athlete who took advantage of a high kick from Cyryl Gane to apply a beautiful fall and, as a bonus, land in the 100kg position. On top, the Cameroonian managed to land hard blows, but saw the Frenchman recover and leave the position. He tried another takedown, which ended up being defended, this time faster, by the interim champion.

The champion returned to the fourth round, fighting more for the center of the octagon and finding more space for Gane. With frequent rotations and approach play, Ngannou once again surprised and put the fight on the ground. The champion adopted the same strategy with fighting intelligence and worked on traumatic blows.

Ngannou's tactic was adopted by his opponent, who chose to change position and put him down. Gane, however, saw the champion defend himself from an ankle lock and come back on top. And, in position, Francis continued applying blows to the guard to score and confirm the victory in the judges' decision.
