An unusual tribute was approved by Nassau County, New York. According to the website MMA fighting, county executives and a U.S. state senator came together to proclaim July 17th as “Mr. Chris Weidman”, in honor of the new UFC middleweight champion – who is from the area.

Weidman resides in Baldwin, a small settlement with just over 20 inhabitants in Nassau County, in the Long Island region of New York state. The “All American”, as he is known, won several local titles, such as the state championship in wrestling for his high school and was in the first division of the sport in the NCAA (national university league).
