TJ Grant says he may not fight for the belt when he recovers from injury

UFC matchmaker told the Canadian that he may have to make one more qualifier before fighting for the belt

Grant may not compete for the title shot after recovering from the injury that took him out of UFC 164

Canadian TJ Grant was scheduled to challenge for the Ben henderson at UFC 164, on August 31, but a blow to the head during jiu-jitsu training took him out of the contest. Now the fighter has lost his place to Anthony Pettis and you no longer know what your next step will be.

Participating in MMA Fighting's MMA Hour program, Grant said he hopes to face the winner of Henderson vs. Pettis, who will face each other at UFC 164. However, this possibility is not 100% certain. According to the fighter, matchmaker Joe Silva spoke to him about this and said that there is a possibility that Grant will have to take a step back, that is, a new eliminatory fight for the belt.

PUBLICITY:

Grant is on an undefeated streak as a lightweight. Since deciding to move down the division, he has won all five of his fights and brutally knocked out his last two opponents, including former challenger Gray Maynard, in the fight that gave the Canadian the chance to fight for Henderson's belt. Still on MMA Hour, TJ said he underwent an MRI exam and no problems were detected.
