For some athletes, fighting in their hometown can be motivating, but for Derrick Lewis, the 'home factor' may have hindered its performance. After being knocked out by Cyryl Gane, UFC 265, the former heavyweight challenger (up to 120,2kg) believes he felt too much pressure to fight in Houston (USA), believes the result could have been different on a 'neutral field' and revealed that he does not want to repeat the experience.

“I don’t want to experience this ever again. It was a lot of pressure, a lot of pressure, a lot. I believe so (the result would have been different). My coaches believe that too. Everyone believes it would have been very different if it hadn't been in Houston. On another stage, I don't believe the result would have been the way it was,” said Lewis.

Twice challenging for the heavyweight belt, Derrick Lewis was knocked out 'at home' by Cyryl Gane, UFC 265, which took place in August 2021. Seeking to turn things around quickly, the 'Besta Negra' already has a new confrontation scheduled: it will face Tai tuivasa, in February. The North American has a record of 26 triumphs and eight setbacks in professional MMA.
