Without an opponent to defend his title, Volkanovski makes an enigmatic post that suggests a challenge at lightweight

After injury to Max Holloway and the consequent removal of the Hawaiian from the trilogy against Alexander Volkanovsky, there remains doubt about the next step for the featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg.). Even with the name Jung Chan-Sung, the 'Korean zombie', gaining strength as a possible replacement, the Australian made a point of confusing fans about his intentions. On social media, the athlete published an enigmatic image, which can be interpreted as an alternative.

“Light weight,” wrote Alexander, captioning an image of him eating.

In the publication, Volkanovski did not mention names or even the intention of testing himself in the up to 70,3kg group, led by Charles of the Bronx. The athlete, however, lives with uncertainty about what his next challenge will be. Initially, the Australian would return to the Octagon on March 5, at UFC 272, when he would fight, for the third time, with Holloway.

Responsible for ending Max's reign in December 2019, Alexander is experiencing a great moment in his career. After beating the Hawaiian in the immediate rematch, held in 2020, the champion won the second defense of his belt by beating Brian ortega in historic confrontation in UFC 266.

Tipped to replace Holloway, the 'Korean zombie', today, he is number four in the ranking of the category up to 61,2kg. The athlete comes from a victory over Dan Ige.

Recently, the lightweight champion, Charles of the Bronx, said he was open to appearing in a superfight. The Brazilian also showed his willingness to fight at both featherweight and welterweight (up to 77kg).
