One of the Brazilian representatives in the UFC 269 next Saturday (11), Peter Munhoz is willing to 'steal the show' on the card in Las Vegas (USA). Dominick Cruz and, in an exclusive interview with SUPER FIGHTS, made a point of showing respect to his opponent and promises a 'war' in the Octagon.

"Dominick Cruz is a former champion who defended the belt numerous times. He was WEC champion, he is one of the best fighters in bantamweight history. He beat TJ (Dillashaw) after people no longer believed him. I was witnessing it in situ and, even when I was away, I always came back with a mission. I prepared a lot for this fight and I feel focused and prepared. It’s going to be a war, I can guarantee that,” said Munhoz.

Asked about his possible strategy for the duel, Pedro tried to highlight movement as Cruz's 'strong point' and reveals that there is the possibility of the fight developing in more than one scenario.

“He is a very difficult fighter to close the distance. The strategy is to pressure, hit, make mistakes and even surprise in the wrestling and grappling part. I believe that the fight can develop in other areas due to the fact that Dominick is a complete fighter”, added the Brazilian.

It's just a quarry...

Definitely, Peter Munhoz He's a fighter who doesn't 'get out of the way' and likes to be involved in big fights. In his last six appearances, he has faced four former champions, in addition to the current belt holder, aljamain sterling. Still, he says he is happy for the opportunity to compete against the best bantamweight athletes (up to 61,2kg).

“The UFC is like the European Football League. And for me it is a great milestone to be able – in the last four years – to be among the top 10. I climbed little by little, I fought against cody garbrandt, aljamain sterling, Frankie Edgar e Jimmie rivera, (José) Aldo and, now, against another former champion. It's a joy to be competing and testing myself among the best fighters in the category. An important milestone for my professional career,” he said.

Descent to the flies?

Despite putting up a competitive fight against José Aldo, Peter Munhoz He was defeated in his last appearance and, later, flirted with the possibility of moving down a category for an adventure in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg.). However, the Brazilian seems to have 'backtracked' and says he is not thinking about changing in the near future.

“I'm not going to draw up a plan now, because I'm very focused on the fight. I fight at cocks and I feel good. I considered and thought about the possibility of going to flyweight, but then the opportunity came up to fight Dominick (Cruz). And bantamweight is not a category I'm comfortable in. I need time, a diet and work. It's work and I can't say no (to the possibility of coming down), but it's not something I've been thinking about lately. We can think ahead. I considered it in the past, but I didn’t have much time to think about it”, he concluded.

Professional since 2019, Peter Munhoz He has a record of 19 triumphs and six setbacks as an MMA fighter. The Brazilian is in eighth place in the bantamweight rankings (up to 61,2kg), but has been on a run of three defeats in his last four fights.
