'New Aldo' praises Rob Font after UFC Vegas 44 and highlights focus on bantamweight title

The Brazilian scored his third consecutive victory and got closer to another chance at the under-61,2kg belt.

After José Aldo lose to Alexander Volkanovsky, Petr yan e Marlon moraes, a large part of the MMA community imagined that the legend would lessen his focus for another chance at the title. However, he managed to reinvent himself and, after overcoming Rob font at UFC Vegas 44 last Saturday (4) to score his third consecutive victory, he revealed that he already aims to return to the top of the world.

"Rob font He's a very tough guy. We knew his quality. He is a great athlete, but I am in pursuit of my dream, which is to be champion of the category. So no one will stop me. I respect everyone, but I'm working on it. I'm training everything and we got it into our heads that I have to be an MMA athlete. So, I have to be good on my feet, in grappling. So, this is the 'New Aldo' and I want to thank everyone who trains me there in Rio (de Janeiro)”, said the 'People's Champion' in an interview in the Octagon.

When asked about another five-round fight after five years, the Brazilian revealed that he managed to prepare adequately and now imagines himself as bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg). In fact, his last 25-minute fight had taken place in July 2016, when he beat Frankie Edgar for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg.).

“I feel really good. We trained for this, so everything went smoothly. Everyone thinks we can fight three rounds, but I was prepared for five. I want to be the champion of the category, so I’m working to show that”, he concluded.

At 35 years old, Aldo currently has 38 commitments as a professional in MMA. In his career in the sport, the Brazilian won 31 triumphs and suffered seven setbacks.
