After 'declaring war' the Justin gaethje by your friend Islam makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn't seem to want to change his stance when it comes to fighting for a lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). Agented by the same manager as the North American, the former division champion adopted a milder tone, but continued to state that his pupil is ahead in the race to challenge the champion.

“I just gave my opinion. Islam deserves it. Of course, I understand that Justin is very excited. He is a great athlete, but my opinion is my opinion”, said Khabib, in an interview with 'ESPN'.
Gaethje's executioner in October 2020, Nurmagomedov made a point of affirming his affection for his former opponent. The Russian legend even remembered moments when the North American helped in his successful journey in MMA.
“I respect Justin. I love that guy. He's a good guy. In 2016, when I was cutting weight for my fight with Darrel Horcher, he helped me the last few days,” he signed off.
Supported by the former champion, Makhachev is enjoying a great moment within Ultimate. Today, the Russian is fourth in the group led by Charles of the Bronx.
After returning to the Octagon more than a year after his stumble against Khabib, for the unification of the lightweight belt, Gaethje returned in style. One of the protagonists of UFC 268, the North American gave fans one of the best fights of the year, when he went through Michael chandler in a battle defined by the judges' decision.
Last weekend, news could serve to excite Gaethje. A direct competitor for a place in the title fight, Islam was selected for a confrontation against Beneil Dariush, number three in the group.
