After considering relegation to featherweight, Dan Hooker plans a duel against 'Korean Zombie'

New Zealander says he can enhance his learning at lightweight to achieve success in the 65,7kg division.

Dan Hooker appears to be, in fact, preparing his descent from lightweight (up to 70,3kg.) to featherweight (up to 65,7kg.). After suffering three defeats in his last four fights, the New Zealander plans to return to the division led by Alexander Volkanovsky and even states that he wants to meet Korean zombie in your next fight.

“The guy I would love to go in (to fight) would be 'Korean zombie'. I would love to face him. I stepped on the scale, did the (featherweight) weight and I feel like I let people decide. What everyone wants – for me to face – will be what I do next, but if I could choose, it would be the Korean zombie”, Stated Dan Hooker in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

Coincidentally, Dan debuted in the organization in 2014 at featherweight, where he had six fights – with three wins and three losses – the last one in 2016. Five years later, he believes he has learned the correct ways to be successful in his former category.

“It’s kind of moving forward and learning from the past. You have to make adjustments for the future and this is just one of them. I'm excited for the future. I feel like featherweight is the weight division I can really thrive in and take advantage of all my strengths.”

Having problems leaving New Zealand, Hooker was unable to perform at his best in his last fight and, after taking on the fight against Islam makhachev a month in advance, the athlete ended up dominated by the Russian and was submitted in the first round, with a kimura, in the UFC 267, in Abu Dhabi. In his career, there are 21 positive results and 11 negative results.
