With a meteoric rise, Conor McGregor stood out for his victories against names like José Aldo, Chad Mendes and Eddie Alvarez, in addition to the practice of provoking opponents, facts that attracted many fans and made his name appear in the 'first echelon' of the UFC. However, since his setback to Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Irishman was unable to maintain the same level of performance and only won Donald Cerrone, in January of 2020.

“Conor just looks for the headlines. He just wants to be in the spotlight, you know? He comes from some defeats. People are wondering if he still has it, what he can still do. He made a lot of money, had a great career and good times in the UFC. Now he thinks he is above the law,” said Covington, in an interview with journalist 'James Lynch'.

It does not stop there. According to the American, he says he is 'sad' by McGregor's sudden drop in performance and says that the Irishman's constant controversies show that he is 'lost' in his career.

“He thinks money can buy anything you want, but money can't stop you from punching an old guy off a stool, hitting someone's phone, throwing a cart into a bus or trying to attack Machine Gun Kelly (singer). It's sad to see, man. It's a big drop. I don't think things will work out for him in the long run. I think he's the kind of guy that we'll see come back to haunt him and he could be 'behind bars' someday.”

Conor is now experiencing his most difficult moment in mixed martial arts. Despite being named the highest-paid athlete of 2021, the Irishman is still recovering from a serious injury to his left ankle in October, in the trilogy against Dustin poirier. He should return to action next year.
