In the final stretch of preparation for the most important fight of his MMA career, the American Chris Weidman saw rumors circulate about an injury to his shoulder that could even put his performance against the Brazilian at risk Anderson Silva, at UFC 162, next Saturday.
In an interview with reporter Evelyn Rodrigues, the middleweight challenger rejected the possibility that he was not well trained to face Spider, in Las Vegas, for the organization's middleweight belt.
“I don’t know how it came about. It was certainly from someone who just wanted to spread rumors and must not have attended any of my training sessions, because I trained hard every day. I'm still in the final stages of preparation here in New York, I won't arrive in Vegas until Monday night. Anyway, there's nothing real about it. My shoulder is 100% and I am in the best physical condition of my career.”
Weidman took the opportunity to talk a little about preparing for the fight. According to him, the training camp was not like the rest of his career. Still, the American is confident in fighting to leave the octagon with the belt.
“For the first time in my career, I brought some new guys into the fold. camp. I tried to change some things, but the focus was on my ground training, the wrestling, which is what I'm good at. Anderson is a very complete fighter, he is very dangerous because he makes you pay for every mistake he makes inside the Octagon. It's as if he's waiting for the first slip you make to take advantage of it. It will be the toughest test of my career, but I am prepared for it.”
UFC 162 takes place this Saturday, July 6th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas. In addition to Anderson, five other Brazilians will be in action at the event: Charles of the Bronx e Roger gracie No. card main, in addition to Gabriel Napao, Edson Barboza e Rafaello Tractor (these will face each other) in the card preliminary.
