Two-time challenger for the Ultimate welterweight (up to 77kg) belt, Jorge masvidal clarified about his departure from UFC 269. The fighter, who would face Leon edwards on December 11, he opened up about the injury and what motivated him to withdraw from his commitment. Still willing to face the Englishman, the North American also proposed a new date for the clash.

“I come from two defeats. I need to make sure I'm healthy and giving it my all. If he (Edwards) wants to wait until February or March, I can decapitate him for the world to see. If he doesn't want to, what can I do? We will meet eventually”, said Masvidal, in an interview with 'The MMA Hour'.
If Leon, who has his next undefined commitment, wishes to continue as Masvidal's opponent, the duel would be postponed for months. If the Englishman rejects the proposal, Jorge has a 'plan b'.
“If Edwards says 'no', I'll let it go and the chosen one will be Colby (Covington)”, he concluded.
Current number seven in the welterweight rankings, Masvidal has not performed since April 2021. On that occasion, the American ended up being run over by the champion with a brutal knockout in the second round.
