Joanna Jedrzejczyk opens the door to a possible return to the UFC and mentions Carla Esparza as a potential rival

Former champion, Polish woman says she can fight the North American again; fight would be a rematch of a duel that took place in 2015

In the midst of a nearly two-year hiatus, Joanna Jedrzejczyk gave indications of what his future could be in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg) of Ultimate. In an interview with 'South China Morning Post', the Polish woman was open and stated that she would 'love' to grant a rematch to Carla esparza.

“It would be an interesting fight. We have a good history of fights. Esparza is waiting for his title shot, but I don't know what will happen next. She might have a shot at the belt. However, Dana White is saying something completely different from Mick (Maynard, UFC matchmaker). But I don't know, I would love to fight her and if she wants to get a title shot, I can fight her,” said Joanna.

In fact, the story of Jedrzejczyk and Esparza is not recent. At UFC 185, which took place on March 14, 2015, the Polish woman won the strawweight belt for the first time against the American, with a knockout in the second round. She also made five other appearances as champion until losing to Rose namajunas.

At 33, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has a history of 16 triumphs and four setbacks as a mixed martial arts professional. She was the strawweight champion (up to 52,2 kg) from March 2015 to November 2017, but has not performed since March 2020, when she was defeated in the electrifying fight against Weili Zhang.

Number two in the ranking up to 52,1kg, Esparza was the first champion of the category, in 2014. At the time, the 'cookie Monster' defeated Rose namajunas in the final of the twentieth edition of the reality show 'The Ultimate Fighter'. Number two in the rankings, Carla has a professional MMA record of 18 victories – currently five in a row – and six setbacks.
