Carina Damm from Espírito Santo was suspended from MMA by the Ohio Athletic Commission, accused of having falsified the sample from the anti-doping test carried out at NAAFS 9, when she was defeated by the American Jessica Eye. According to Commissioner Bernie Profato, the sister of Rodrigo Damm he would have mixed another substance with the urine. The fighter received six months of hooking and a fine of US$550.
The decision did not please the fighter either. The athlete's manager, American Jason Ellis, said that his client will appeal the suspension and fine. Ellis said he spoke quickly with Carina and her husband, fellow fighter Luis Sapo, and came to the conclusion that “she didn't do anything that she shouldn't have done.”
In an interview with MMAjunkie, the businessman said he will “find the facts and support the client”. According to Profato, Carina can file the appeal until August, on a date to be stipulated. The defense could result in cancellation of the punishment or even aggravation, taking the sentence to a year, as the Brazilian was previously caught in an anti-doping test.
The punishment applied by the Ohio Athletic Commission will be followed by all other commissions in the United States, as per standard. However, the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, which is still taking its first steps in regulation, does not follow the punishments of the North American entity. With this, Carina is scheduled to fight at MMA Super Heroes, on July 15th, in the interior of São Paulo.
