To the surprise of many, the publication did not go unanswered. In a rare moment of humility, 'Bones' seems to have accepted the statement and agreed, even with some reservations.

“I was really hoping he would stick with the sport long enough to prove it, but maybe you're right. He’s the best in history,” he responded.

A lightweight legend (up to 70,3kg) in MMA, Khabib abandoned the sport in October 2020. In his last fight, Nurmagomedov defeated Justin gaethje and unified the category belt. Still in the Octagon, the athlete announced his farewell, leaving mixed martial arts with an impeccable record of 29 wins and no losses.

Even recognizing the legacy of the 'Eagle', Jones' achievements inside the Octagon are still impressive. For more than 10 years, the North American dominated the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg). His reign came to an end in August 2020, when the fighter gave up his belt to dedicate himself to moving to heavyweight (up to 120,2kg).

The debut of 'Bones' in the new category, however, still seems to be a long way from happening. Without fighting for almost two years, his debut is scheduled for 2022.
